Florida Math Policy Highlights
Explore Florida policies shaping math pathways, placement, developmental education, transfer, and student success data.
See F.S.§1003.4282, Requirements for a Standard High School Diploma. Students earn four math credits, including Algebra I and Geometry; approved substitutions may satisfy up to two other math credits.
See F.S. §1007.23(3) and Rule 6A-10.024, F.A.C. Florida has three pathways: Algebra through Calculus, Statistical Reasoning, and Mathematical Thinking in Context.
See F.S. §§1008.02 and 1008.30. Developmental education may use modular, compressed, contextualized, or corequisite instruction, with colleges counseling students toward college-credit courses quickly.
See F.S. §1008.30, Assessing College-Level Skills. FCS colleges may use placement tests or alternative measures; many Florida public high school graduates are exempt from mandatory testing and developmental education.
See F.S. §1007.24, Statewide Course Numbering System. Equivalent postsecondary courses use statewide numbers, helping approved math and other credits transfer among participating institutions.
See F.S. §1008.30(6). Each FCS institution reports annual student-success data for its developmental education strategies, and the Chancellor compiles the results for state leaders.
